4.0 out of 5 stars Quality lantern, August 29, 2008

This review is from: Coleman MicroPacker Compact Battery Lantern (Sports)
This is a rugged little lantern. I have to say that for $10, I was not expecting something of this quality. This is a solid well constructed unit that will not disintegrate if it gets knocked on the floor.

Other reviewers have stated this provides light for weeks. Not so... While technically it may output light on 3 AA batteries for 125 hours, it isn't at usable levels.

I bought two of these, and as soon as I received them, I took one of them and inserted the batteries that were included with it, turned it on and left it. I wanted to see if it would live up to other reviewers claims on battery life.

I realize that battery life would be extended with intermittent usage rather than continuous use, but if you are planning to use this for emergencies, you may need it running continuously for extended periods.

Anyway, the first 24 hours were the brightest. It easily illuminated my 10 X 12 study well enough to distinguish objects around the room,... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal emergency light, June 29, 2007
    By
My wife and I bought two of these on a Tuesday for a weekend camping trip and, lo and behold, the next night a storm knocked out the power. These were a godsend. Absolutely fantastic. They aren't the world's brightest things because of a reflective sleeve that casts the light in a fairly uniform direction, but once it gets darker, they're easily brighter 2-3 candles and without the fear of accidentally leaving one on to burn down your house. With good alkalines, they could easily run for weeks due to the low power draw of the LED's. These are fantastic emergency lights for the house, car, etc. And at the going price of $10, they just can't be beat. I highly recommend them and have already urged my entire family to stock up.

They work very well for camping too. ;)

PS I would recommend staying away from the "exponent" line of Coleman LED lanterns. They're designed poorly as far as light distribution and LED placement.

This review is from: Coleman MicroPacker Compact Battery Lantern (Sports)
Coleman Micropacker compact battery lantern proves to be a highly useful camping device. The lantern stands 6.5 inches tall, about 2 inches in width and weight only 6.5 ounces. Its armed with two LED lights that gives off plenty of good light for its size and the three AA batteries got excellent life span which really help. The lantern itself isn't waterproof but it seem to be well sealed so several times I took it out in foul weather, it held up without any problems.

There is sliding reflector that goes up and down. While it up, the lantern can serves as a directional wide flood light while when it down, it serves as an surrounding light in all directions. There is enough light there to read a book or play cards.

Small size, good battery life and lightweight carry load make this an ideal backpacker light to used inside the tent. It also got a fold out handle on the top to you can hang it almost anywhere for any situation. While it won't turn night into day, it... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Accurate and stylish, January 24, 2008

    C. Jewell (Arlington, VA) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
I've ridden close to 400 miles since I purchased this Cateye cycle computer and been quite pleased with it, but I didn't want to submit a review until I had a chance to measure the computer's accuracy. On my previous bike, I used a Trek cycle computer (wired). The distance measurement the two computers gave for my home to office commute were slightly off. I didn't know which one to believe. So the other day I rode along the Mt. Vernon trail, and when I passed mile marker 17, I checked the Cateye's odometer. When I passed mile marker 18, the odometer was accurate to the hundredth decimal place. I was very impressed.

    Raves:
    - Accuracy
    - Size, style and installation (looks great mounted to the stem)
    - ClickTec ease of use (with the Trek I had to fumble with buttons along the top and bottom)
    - No ugly wires

    Rants:
    - Requires 2 batteries
    - One time I hit a big bump and the angle of the wheel sensor changed enough so that the magnet and it... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and easy, May 29, 2007
Very nice product, little and compact, very easy to read it and to scroll from differents screens just one click of the "screen" (Hide button.)

The installation is in minutes, no tools you'll need, only common sense and the instruction sheet.
The batteries are very easy to find them and cheap to.

It comes with all the features you need in a ride.

Don't waste your time looking for an other cyclocomputer, this is a very good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great item, September 28, 2007
This product is all they say. The best part is when I called the mailer
for some help, as the product wasn't working at first. I actually spoke with a human!! The advise was right on the money. I couldn't install it on the right upper fork, so I put it on the bottom instead. The sensor is very senative when aligning it with the magnet. I love it so much, I'm thinking about purchasing another for my husband.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Lantern Needs Improvement, March 18, 2012

Portable 24 LED Super Bright Deluxe Camping Lantern with Compass (colors vary)
This is a good lantern for the price. In my estimation, if they had put a strong metal handle on it instead of a flimsy plastic one, this lantern would be just about perfect for walking my dog at night, camping trips, and other activities that require lighting. Due to the fact that it runs on 3 each D cell batteries and LED lights use very little power to light them, one should be able to get many hours of usage before needing to replace the batteries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very light, bright and lights up the night., January 6, 2012
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Portable 24 LED Super Bright Deluxe Camping Lantern with Compass (colors vary) (CD-ROM)
I ordered this lantern from Amazon hoping to get it within 4 or 5 days. It arrived the day after I ordered it. When the package was handed to me it was very light so I thought Great, here's another cheap piece of junk. but in this case lighter was better. It is made really well and not easy to break. It is very bright and being led the bulbs should last very long time. I will be buying a couple more so that I will have enough to spread through out the house during black outs. My hat is off to the folks at Amazon, Good Work.

This review is from: Portable 24 LED Super Bright Deluxe Camping Lantern with Compass (colors vary) (CD-ROM)
This lantern is simple, inexpensive, and exactly what I was looking for. The only downside was paying for the four D batteries, and for this price, that's fine by me.
