It contains every screwdriver and allen wrench I need to attend to my mountain bike on the fly. In addition, it has a small star-shaped hex attachment to adjust my BB5 mechanical disc brakes. I like the two on-board tire levers, spoke wrenches, and the chain tool as well! Aside from the utility of the tool, one of the things I like best about it is that it does not make noise when I ride over rough terrain. I've done group rides where the guy in front of me is packing loose allen wrenches in an undersaddle bag and it sounds like he's dropping a toolbox onto a workbench every time he hits a rock. My purchase was a replacement of the exact same item that I had been using for 2 years prior, when I lost the machined screw of the chain tool.I did not rate this tool with 5 stars for the following reasons. After two years of traveling in my camelback, the tool began to pick up rust spots. My hydration bag never leaked, so... (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Topeak Hexus II Multi-tool (Sports) I rate items based on three criteria - Does it work as advertised? Does the value justify the cost? Does it improve my life? I put my recommendation at the top, then answer those three questions below.RECOMMENDATION This is one of those "industry standard" pieces of biking gear. If you're starting out and need a tool to handle 99% of bike issues that will pop up, this multitool is for you. FUNCTIONALITY It's got a lot of stuff that I don't really use, but the allen wrenches and the tire spoons have come in handy on many occassions. VALUE All bike accessories seem expensive to me, and I've forced myself to just ignore the pricing for the gear I "need" for road cycling. I enjoy having this little insurance policy on hand on my long rides though. DOES IT IMPROVE MY LIFE? It's great to not worry about bike issues when you're out on a long ride. This tool is small enough to tuck into your jersey... This review is from: Topeak Hexus II Multi-tool (Sports) WHAT ARE MY NEEDS:I'm a fairly avid, dare I say, "cyclist." I'm guessing I ride a few thousand miles a year. My last tool broke and was a bit bulky, so I searched and searched and found this for working on the bike on the side of the road. I use it for emergency on the road service. WHY I CHOSE THIS OVER THE OTHERS: Well, Topeak's got a great warranty. I wanted something that had integrated tire levers and that pretty much narrowed it down to this tool. There are very few that have that feature. It's got a chain breaker. I wanted something specifically that had a chain breaker b/c that's probably one of the few things I can't get on the road. I can always borrow a hex tool from someone or maybe even a screwdriver to make things work but a chain breaker is pretty rare to find on near by. The price was right. FEATURES: Read the specs on this thing b/c it has a lot more tools than it looks. If you're wondering how the chain breaker works... Read more |
