At first, this seemed like a great buy. The HR monitor was relatively comfortable, the watch was very easy to customize and intuitive, and it fit well.

Then, I began to notice that the pace was off by a rather large margin. I had trouble getting a GPS signal, even on clear days, standing outside, and in the same spot I last turned off the watch.

The elevation was way off. I ran on the beach right beside the water and it gave me a large range of altitudes.

And, during it's first real test in a triathlon, I noticed at the start of the run that it had lost it's GPS signal. To make a long story short, I had to fiddle with it in the middle of my race and eventually had to turn it off and on to get it to reset and find a singal. Big bummer.

I returned it for a refund.

I gave it two starts instead of one b/c it seems like the flaws are fixable with a firmware update, but the watch has been out for around a year now, and if they... Read more

I really don't understand the negative reviews. This watch rules!

The negative:
A lot of reviews seem to be complaining about the download function. Yes, that pretty much blows.

You can't really get any meaningful data from it on the swim, because if you have it on your arm it will lose the gps signal when you put it underwater, and even if it doesn't do that, the distance will get thrown off by the back and forth motion of the arm when swimming. You can't look at your watch during your swim, so who cares?

The positive:
I have been using it for over a year now and have used it for bike rides, marathon training and a marathon, and triathlons. Works great for all of those.

I've used this on my bike rides just as a back up or to get other data that my bike computer isn't giving me at that moment. Excellent.

On my runs it has been phenomenal.

There are so many ways of tracking your laps and transitioning from... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Without a doubt, the best GPS HRM around, June 25, 2011

Make no mistake, if you are someone who is serious about your training, this is the HRM for you. During the process of training for triathlons for almost 10 years and completing 2 ironman distant races, I have used a number of various HRM's including Polar and Garmin; however, this is the first Timex I have used and without a doubt, it is hands down the best ever! Yes, it allows for an enormous number of custom settings and that is part of what makes it great. I would like to clarify an issue some others have made regarding the TrainingPeaks issue. The problem is that they are somehow attaching their issues with the costs of TrainingPeaks to the Timex and they are in no way connected. It doesn't matter what devise you are using, the free membership to TrainingPeaks is the same and if you want the extra training info you have to pay for it. The last devise I used was the Garmin 405CX and there were a number of things I did not like; for example, the issue of the touch bezel and wearing... Read more
